Mimi's Cafe Restaurant - Fun Family Dining
I've heard my brother talk about Mimi's Cafe Restaurant many times. It wasn't until a family get together last year that we finally got to go there. We first visited the Mimi's Cafe location in San Mateo, California with my dad and my brother's family. We had a very enjoyable evening and now heartily agree with them that Mimi's Cafe Restaurant is a fun and family friendly place to get a delicious and affordable meal. The décor at Mimi's Cafe is warm and welcoming. Accommodating our party of ten took some extra time, but thanks to ample seating in the lobby we were able to wait comfortably. Mimi's Cafe has many restaurant seating options including roomy booths and diner style stools at a long counter. We were finally seated at a long table with comfortable chairs. Our server took our drink orders and returned promptly with them. He then brought fresh bread and left us alone to ponder the menu. The bread, French Baguettes and fresh warm Carrot Raisin Bread, was delicious! The menu at Mimi's Cafe Restaurant is extensive and a big problem for the indecisive. From Soups and Salads to Pot Roast and Fish and Chips to Half-pound Hamburgers and Classic Sandwiches, Mimi's Cafe is a restaurant with something for everyone. I narrowed my choices down to Café Fish and Chips, a Ham and Cheddar Grill sandwich or Classic Beef Dip sandwich, and finally decided to go with the beef dip. My husband chose the Apple Cider Glazed Pork Chops with a baked potato and my dad chose Mimi's Pot Roast. Both my brother and his wife opted for the smaller portioned Soup and Salad which also comes with a giant muffin. The kids all enjoyed a wide selection on the children's menu. My youngest son chose his usual favorite Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, while my older boy ordered Oodles of Noodles with marinara sauce. Our nephews decided on Mimi's Mini Corn Dogs with French fries. The kids' meals also included a beverage and dessert. The salad course arrived with fresh greens and delicious dressings. When the entrées arrived I discovered that my brother hadn't been kidding when he talked about Mimi's Cafe's huge portions. Both the Pork Chops and the Pot Roast were enough to feed two, if not three people. The children's portions were just right for our little ones (ages 3, 4 and 7), but might leave an older child wanting more. I was disappointed with my Classic Beef Dip sandwich. It was served with both the usual au jus and a small cup of barbecue sauce. Without the extra sauce the sandwich tasted very bland, and the addition of barbecue sauce made the sandwich extra messy. The accompanying fries were very good. Next time I'll try the Fish and Chips. Both the Pot Roast and the Pork Chops were delicious, as reported by my dad and my husband, and we took home enough of each for lunch the next day. The adults in our group were all too stuffed to even consider ordering dessert, but the kids dug right in to their special Dirt and Worms dessert (chocolate pudding with gummi worms and chocolate cookie crumbs). We also visited the Mimi's Cafe Restaurant location in Anaheim on our recent trip to Disneyland. I ordered the Pot Roast this time, and should have split it with my Dad! It was delicious. The kids went for Mini Corn Dogs and a Hamburger this time and didn't have room for dessert. The Anaheim Mimi's Cafe was just like the restaurant in San Mateo. We enjoyed good food and great service at an affordable price. Overall we've had an extremely pleasant time at Mimi's Cafe Restaurants.
