Carlsbad Super 8 - A Family Friendly Hotel

The Carlsbad Super 8 is a budget and family friendly hotel with a good location and spacious rooms. We stayed there on our first visit to Carlsbad and Legoland California.

Located just off Hwy 101 in Carlsbad, this hotel is just a few minutes from Legoland and convenient to plenty of restaurants, shopping centers and other sight seeing opportunities. It's almost in a residential neighborhood and we found it to be very quiet at night, with just a hint of freeway noise. We didn't get a chance to visit the park we saw down the street, but it looked like it had a fun playground.

Our room was typically furnished with two comfortable double beds, a small table with two chairs and the usual dresser/tv stand. An artificial tree in one corner and an interesting set of glass blocks between the windows gave the room an almost tropical feel. There was also a microwave and a small refrigerator. We brought microwave popcorn to snack on in the evenings. In the morning we enjoyed a free breakfast of fresh pastries, juice and coffee.

The room had plenty of space for our boys to play. Our then 4-year-old insisted on sleeping in his sleeping bag on the floor and we found a nice out-of-the-way spot to put it.

Our room also had a spacious bathroom. It had a shower and tub combination, and although the water pressure wasn't much to speak of, it had a nice tall showerhead. The over-head light and the fan were on separate switches, a feature we always prefer. The Super 8 housekeepers also provided plenty of towels, soap, etc.

The employees at the Carlsbad Super 8 were very friendly and helpful. We had no problems checking in or out and the lobby was well stocked with information and brochures about area attractions. Our room was clean and well maintained. We even got some great restaurant recommendations from one of the front desk staff. We also learned that they were in the process of renovating many of their rooms, especially the bathrooms.

While Carlsbad has plenty of entertainment options, there's also plenty to do at the hotel. One night during our stay we got take-out from a nearby Pizza Hut and watched cable tv in our room. The hotel also has a swimming pool and a courtyard with several patio tables, but the weather prevented us from enjoying these outdoor features of the hotel.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Carlsbad Super 8. I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great deal in the Carlsbad area.
