Camping in California
Our family loves to go camping in California. While the things we like to do on camping trips have changed over the years, California campgrounds are plentiful and varied enough to have met our needs on each vacation. We have taken several different kinds of camping vacations. My favorite way to enjoy the outdoors is to sit in a comfortable camping chair outside our tent or cabin and read a book. There is nothing more relaxing to me! This doesn't happen often, however. As the boys get older, they get more active and often we set up camp and then head for the pool, on a hike or away from camp to see what the area has to offer. And camping in California has so much to offer! If you want to stay in camp, you'll enjoy the many campgrounds that have on site activities. These vary from camp to camp but may include swimming pools, bike rentals, playgrounds, petting zoos, bbqs and more. Some even have karaoke parties!

If getting away from it all is your goal, you will want to look for a more primitive camping experience. Try a remote campground or
state park
with hike in camping or drive in campsites with lots of trails and hiking opportunities. This is a great way to share the natural beauty of California with your family.Or, if you like being outdoors but you don't like roughing it, there are plenty of California campgrounds that offer cabins, hot showers and other more hotel-like amenities. Camping is also a fun (and affordable) alternative to hotels while you're on a road trip. We frequently stay at
KOA campgrounds
that have cabins when en route to our vacation destination. We just check in, unroll our sleeping bags and we're set. If we get in early enough, we might play a round of miniature golf or go swimming, both great ways for the boys to burn off some energy after a long ride in the car.

Camping in California is a lot of fun. Whether you like primitive camping or prefer to have all the comforts of home at your fingertips; whether you camp in a tent, an rv or a cabin, you will easily find the right California campground for you and your family.
